Wow! We have been so busy, and this month is flying by! We are practising hard for the concert, and making some beautiful gifts for Christmas. Please remember the important dates for making gingerbread houses and Polar Express day in the agendas. Thanks for sending all of the materials.

The history of Stewart Nicks School

We are learning about the history of our school and community in Social Studies. We asked Mrs. C to come in and answer some questions we had. Did you know the brick archway at the front of our school used to be over the doorway of the old school?

Painting Fun

We are studying the artwork of Eric Carle. We have created large colored papers to use in our art pieces. We had a lot of fun!

We had a wonderful time at the R.C.M.P. Heritage Centre. We were invited by Mr. Shank to present lions to D.A.R.E.(Drug awareness trainees) at their graduation ceremony. It was a surprise to them, and they loved receiving the lions from us. They will use the lions when they go into schools to do presentations about saying "no" to drugs.

We toured the Heritage Centre in the morning, then ate lunch and walked over to where the graduation ceremony was taking place. We tip-toed past a parade and waited quietly for our time to enter into the ceremony.

Halloween

Because Halloween is on a Sunday this year, and because we are going on another field trip, we will not be dressing up in our costumes for school this year. We will be going to the Conexus Arts Centre for the matinee performance of Alice in Wonderland. This is a production of "Do It With Class". A permission note will come home soon with more details.

Great excitement creates great writing!

As soon as we got our frogs in the tank, the paper and markers came out, and the writing began!

We decided to read to the frogs. They loved it!

Field Trip Friday, October 8

Our class will be traveling to the RCMP Heritage Centre on Friday, October 8. We have been chosen to present "Dare Bears" to a group of DARE  graduates. We will tour the Heritage Contre for about an hour, eat a bag lunch, and then participate in the grad program.

We had a very exciting day!

We found a new friend for our classroom! We were very busy today finding a tank for him, cleaning it, going out to pick some nice things to put in it, and finding him some buddies.

We love to play a game called "snakes" in math. Ask your child how to play!

Math Mania

The grade two students are learning about ordinal numbers. Here they are teaching the grade one's about how they lined up their manipulatives for a race (they were supposed to be animals, but we had to race houses and trees).

Reading at home

The grade ones are so excited and proud to be learning to read. Please give them an audience and support them by listening to them read from their yellow duotangs every day. This daily reading practise makes a big difference in their reading development.
